Zusammenfassung A discussion is presented of the properties of the model in the high-dimensional limit. The authors present results from a Monte Carlo simulation indicating a facilitation of the map-ordering process if the dimensionality of the input space is increased, and they provide a mathematical analysis of the development of localized receptive fields via the input-selection mechanism. The analytical results are compared with data from large-scale simulations using a Connection Machine CM-2, and very good agreement is found
